    Thursday 2nd September, 2010
    (IANS)

A 25-year-old student union leader was shot by unidentified assailants in the Patwadi locality of Greater Noida Thursday, police said.

Rohit Yadav, the Ghaziabad district president of Samajwadi Party Student Federation, was allegedly shot at around 12.30 p.m., Superintendent of Police (Greater Noida) Atul Saxena said.

Yadav was rushed to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad, where his condition was stated to be serious.

Rohit's father Vinesh Yadav said: 'My son was just about to leave the house when 5-7 men came and opened fire on him.'

Sources in the area said a woman named Laxmi Devi, residing in his locality, was teased by a group of men in her neighbourhood on Wednesday, after which she approached Rohit for help.

Rohit Thursday was about to take the woman to Bisrakh police station for getting an FIR registered against the culprits. However, just as he was about to leave the house, he was shot by five-seven men.
