    (IANS)

Eight people of a family were killed early Thursday when a tanker hit their Tata Sumo in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district.

The accident took place at about 2 a.m. along the Agra-Aligarh route in Hathras district, 300 km from here.

'While seven of the family members died on the spot, another breathed his last on the way to hospital. Another family member, injured critically, is undergoing treatment,' police inspector N.P. Raghav told reporters in Hathras.

According to police, the family members were from Aligarh and were returning home after finalising a marital alliance at a temple in Hathras.

'After the accident, the driver of the tanker managed to escape. Efforts are on to nab him,' added Raghav.
