Nazi candidate loses endorsement
BUTTE -- Montana Right to Life has removed Shawn Stuart from its list of endorsed candidates because he is the Montana contact for the National Socialist Movement, which calls itself "America's Nazi Party" on its Web site.

Stuart is running on the Republican ticket for Butte's House District 76.

Within hours of being questioned about the endorsement, the group removed his name from its online list of candidates whose views align with theirs.

"He should have never been endorsed," said Gregg Trude, executive director of the Helena-based group. "He slipped through the cracks."
Trude said the endorsements are based on questionnaires the candidates fill out.

Trude said he had made a note to himself to call Stuart with follow-up questions before deciding on the endorsement, but never did speak to him.

The Montana Human Rights Network had issued a press release calling on the group to withdraw its support of Stuart.

The state Republican party has also said it does not endorse Stuart and will work to defeat him in the November election.
