Indianapolis - The amateur sports capital of the world is becoming quite a music city, too.
"Drum Corps International" announced that it will relocate its headquarters from Chicago to Indianapolis sometime by the end of 2008. The group sponsors marching band competitions for students all over the world.
Along with the corporate offices, Indianapolis will become the permanent home for the Drum Corps International world championships beginning in 2009. Drum Corps had been considering a move, but Lucas Oil Stadium sealed the deal.
"When he mentioned the fact that a new stadium was in the mix, and not just a new stadium, but a retractable roof might be in the mix as well, so that we can enjoy the open-air sound if we so desire, and of course, as an event planner, I can tell you it will be nice to close the roof if there's inclement weather," said Dan Acheson, Drum Corps International CEO.
The city expects an economic impact of about $100 million over the next decade.
