LIBYAN FAMILIES DEMAND COMPENSATION FROM BULGARIA AGAIN
16:49 Tue 14 Feb 2006

The speaker of the association of the parents of children infected with HIV in Libya Idris Laga said the relatives have renewed their demands for the payment of compensation.

Earlier the parents of the more than 400 infected with HIV Libyan children demanded funds from Bulgaria for a favourable outcome in the trial of the five Bulgarian nurses. The Bulgarians were detained for causing the infection intentionally, Focus news agency reported.

The demands changed and now relatives insist on a payment of 10 million euro for each infected child.

Yesterday representatives of different organisations met to discuss the provision of humanitarian aid and medications for the treatment of the infected children. As a result the children will receive treatment in five European hospitals.

Laga said despite the developments the financial side of the question is also important. A Benghazi fund has been found under the guidance of the Gaddafi charity foundation, together with non-governmental organisations from Bulgaria, the US and the EU.
