CBI begins probe into Patna kidnapping
    India Gazette
    Friday 9th May, 2008
    (IANS)

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began a probe into the kidnapping of Akash Pandey, a school student, from Patna last year, investigating officials said Friday.

Akash, 14, a class 7 student and the only son of his parents, was abducted on way to DAV School Aug 10 last year. Despite repeated assurances, police failed to trace the boy. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar too had promised the family that the boy would be found.

His parents demanded a CBI probe into the case last year.

The state government recommended a CBI probe after the abductors sent a letter, for the first time since the kidnapping, to Akash's family seeking Rs.1 million ransom.

A team of officials from the bureau arrived here Thursday. 'The CBI team met some senior police officials in this regard,' an investigating official said.

The team did not contact the Shastri Nagar police station to obtain the official records. 'Till Friday morning, none of the members of CBI team visited us and asked for documents,' Arun Kumar Razak, sub inspector of the police station, told IANS.
