JDBC June 2006 Community Tech Preview available

By Linda Cole

Microsoft has released a new Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver for SQL Server 2005. Available as a download to all SQL Server users, at no additional charge, the SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 CTP June 2006 provides access to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 from any Java application, application server, or Java-enabled applet.

SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 CTP June 2006 should be used for general testing purposes only; do not deploy it on production servers.

The preview includes all of the QFE rollup fixes to date, customer issues filed through the feedback center have been addressed and the preview includes all of the CTP 1 changes, including Integrated Security. Client Failover, a new feature, has also been added and is fully documented for this CTP. (Feedback is requested on both the functionality and the docs).

CTP June 2006 requires JDK 1.4 or later, SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2000 and installs on Linux, Solaris, Unix, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, and Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Support for this CTP release is provided by the SQL Server 2005 forums.

Additional information and download are available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=f914793a-6fb4-475f-9537-b8fcb776befd&displaylang=en.
