India Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders has roped in New South Wales (NSW) coach Matthew Mott as the assistant to chief coach John Buchanan.

Buchanan, former Australia coach, invited Mott to work as an assistant throughout the Twenty20 tournament.

Mott, who had a successful season as coach of the victorious NSW team in the Pura Cup in the Australian domestic circuit, is likely to head to India next fortnight to reach in time for Knight Riders' first match against the Bangalore team on April 18.

NSW chief executive Dave Gilbert has given a go-ahead to Mott.

'It's going to be a great experience for him,' Gilbert was quoted as saying in Sydney Morning Herald here Wednesday.

'They (Knight Riders) have a terrific side, and the opportunity to work with Buchanan will be beneficial for him. This is a great chance for Matt to go there and observe firsthand some of the game's innovations. There will obviously be some pretty interesting cricket being played, and he will be able to take note of it all and plan for our assault on the title next season,' Gilbert said.

Mott will have at his disposal some of the game's most celebrated players when he links with the Knight Riders. Ricky Ponting, Chris Gayle, Sourav Ganguly, Shoaib Akhtar, Ishant Sharma and Brendon McCullum are among those on the Kolkata franchise's books.
